ABOUT

Dian Cathal is a queer, transmasc American comedian, writer, actor, and theatre-maker based in London. His work lives in the space where stand-up meets storytelling, where humor and heartbreak collide, and where queerness, disability, and identity aren’t side notes but the whole show.

He has brought solo shows to stages across the UK, with Trans*Atlantic and Deadnamed both earning Best New Show nominations at Brighton Fringe. His comedy and theatre are described as darkly funny, raw, and joyfully strange. He aims to make audiences laugh until they cry and cry until they laugh again.

  • "Fizzing with star quality, Dian Cathal will make you laugh, cry and thank the theatre gods"

    A Young(ish) Perspective (2024)

Beyond his solo work, he co-produces inclusive showcases such as Chronically Hilarious, a platform for disabled and chronically ill comedians, and Gays, Theys and Strays, a queer-led variety night celebrating voices outside the mainstream. These projects reflect his passion for creating space for performers who are often sidelined by the industry.

  • "An intensely raw performance… with humour, honesty, and love."

    Everything Theatre (2023)

He is also a Soho Theatre Writers’ Lab alum, and his writing has been published in Fierce: An Anthology of Dynamic New Queer Monologues for Actors.

On screen, audiences may have spotted him in Avenue 5, They Them Us, or very briefly in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

At its heart, his work is about stories: messy, complicated, defiant stories that sit at the intersections of queerness, grief, disability, and joy. If audiences leave his shows laughing, thinking, or just feeling a little less alone, then he has done his job.
